Don and Donna Williams Wapello Youth Fund Begins Making an Impact

A new fund created to support Wapello’s youth is already making a difference.
The Don and Donna Williams Wapello Youth Fund was established with a simple goal: to help make sure every child in Wapello has the opportunity to participate in youth sports and STEM activities.

The fund recently provided support to the Wapello Youth Volleyball team, making them the first group to benefit from Don and Donna’s vision. The team was able to purchase quality volleyballs to practice with. The excitement from the players was a wonderful reminder of what this fund can mean for local kids.
The support has continued with Wapello Flag Football. The 1st through 4th grade flag football teams were able to purchase new flag belts and mouth guards for the players.
The support from the fund doesn't stop there. During its first year, the Don and Donna Williams Wapello Youth Fund will also provide support to Wapello Youth Boys and Girls Basketball and Tomahawk Wrestling.
Each year, a portion of the fund's available earnings will be granted to youth sports and STEM activities in Wapello. The goal is to create a lasting source of support that can benefit local children year after year.
Don and Donna created the endowment because they believe that a child's ability to participate should not be determined by what their family can afford. Their hope is that, as the fund continues to grow, it will eventually be able to cover the costs of youth activities so that no Wapello child has to miss out.
“Don and Donna have started something really special for Wapello,” said Kelse Truitt, Affiliate Director of the Community Foundation of Louisa County. “They aren't just helping kids today. They are creating a lasting resource that can continue supporting Wapello youth for generations to come.”
Don and Donna have started the vision. Now, the Wapello community has the opportunity to help build it.
